Graduation

  • Students must arrive by 8:30 am.

  • Gates open at 9:00 am

  • We would really like to have this ceremony outside on the football field. Any type of light rain or drizzle, our plan is to proceed with an outdoor graduation.  Please plan accordingly for possible bad weather.

  • If the weather is considerably bad (heavy rain or lighting) we will have an indoor graduation at 9am in the gymnasium.  Two guests will be permitted per graduate in the gymnasium. Two additional seats will be in the Auditorium, Cafe and Library.  More information will be provided on the rain situation.

Dennis-Yarmouth School District Senior Graduation Attire

Purpose The graduation ceremony is a momentous occasion that recognizes the dedication and achievements of our seniors. Our position aims to honor both the collective accomplishments of our students and the individual excellence that each student brings to the Dennis-Yarmouth community.

Statement The graduation ceremony is a prestigious event reflecting the achievements of our seniors, maintaining the school's standards of decorum and respect. Therefore, the gown must be worn properly over appropriate formal attire: long pants, a collared shirt, and a tie, or a dress/skirt. Students are not permitted to wear jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, work boots, flip-flops, Teva-type sandals, or Birkenstock-style sandals under the graduation gown. Students in need of assistance to meet the dress code requirements should contact their guidance counselor for support. For any questions or assistance, please reach out to your guidance counselor. During the graduation ceremony, seniors are encouraged to wear approved stoles, cords, and other regalia that reflect their accomplishments both within and outside the high school. This practice not only celebrates shared achievements but also acknowledges the unique contributions and heritage of each student.

Approved Regalia Criteria

1. Excellence Areas:

  • a. Leadership: Recognizes students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in school or community settings.

  • b. Academics: Acknowledges students achieving high academic standards.

  • c. Community Service: Celebrates students who have significantly contributed to community service efforts.

  • d. Military Service: Honors students committed to or participating in military service.

2. Cultural Heritage: Students may wear cords signifying their cultural background, promoting diversity and inclusivity within the school community.

Restrictions

  • Mortarboards/Graduation Caps Decorating or altering graduation caps is not permitted to maintain uniformity and respect for the formal ceremony's decorum. This practice also celebrates our combined identity as proud D-Y Dolphins.

Implementation

  • Requests for cords, stoles, or other regalia reflecting the specified areas must be approved by administration. Submissions for approval should be presented at least 2 weeks before the graduation date.

  • The administration  reserves the right to decline any regalia that does not adhere to the stated criteria or align with the school district’s values.

Conclusion

This position reinforces our commitment to celebrating both our unity and individual uniqueness. We look forward to honoring the outstanding achievements of the Dennis-Yarmouth Class of 2026 in a ceremony befitting their hard work and dedication.

Approval This position is endorsed by Dennis-Yarmouth High School and is effective as of May 5, 2025.
