Department Head: Sylvie Therrien
The Science Department is committed to developing students’ abilities in critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration. In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world, it is essential for students to develop a strong understanding of scientific concepts and the role science plays in shaping our daily lives. Scientific literacy helps students evaluate information, make informed decisions, and thoughtfully engage with issues that influence the health, environment, and technological future of our global community.
Guided by the Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Frameworks and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), our curriculum builds a strong foundation in the natural sciences while helping students understand the connections among scientific disciplines. Our vibrant and dedicated faculty create a dynamic learning environment where students explore scientific ideas through inquiry, research, and discussion that reflect the pulse of today’s scientific and technological world.
Students develop the ability to investigate questions, analyze evidence, and communicate their findings while using appropriate technologies to design experiments, collect and interpret data, and present results. Hands-on laboratory investigations and real-world applications are essential components of every science course.
The department offers a wide range of courses to support students’ interests, abilities, and future goals. Opportunities include Advanced Placement, Honors, and College Preparatory courses, as well as pathways that allow students to explore interests in environmental science, health and life sciences, and engineering.
Students considering careers in science, medicine, engineering, or other STEM fields are encouraged to pursue the most challenging science and mathematics courses available.
Through engaging instruction and meaningful laboratory experiences, the Science Department helps students become curious learners, innovative thinkers, and informed citizens prepared to navigate and contribute to an ever-evolving scientific and technological world.
