Multilingual Learner Education
Multilingual Learner Education
Department Head: Renata Dos Santos
The English Learner Education (ELE) Program supports multilingual students whose first language is not English. Through English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction from licensed teachers, students build English proficiency and confidence while participating in grade-level academic learning.
Instruction is guided by the WIDA English Language Development Standards, Common Core, and State Frameworks, focusing on academic language skills such as explaining, informing, arguing, and narrating. Lessons are tailored to each student’s proficiency level and connect language learning to real-world topics and content areas.
The ELE Program provides students with pathways to success in school and beyond — helping them access rigorous coursework, express ideas with clarity, and participate fully in academic and social life. As students progress, they gain the language skills needed for college, career, and civic readiness, while celebrating and building on their cultural and linguistic strengths.
