At a glance

Hello Dolphins,

I hope you and your families are safe and warm following last week’s blizzard. I know Eversource is working hard to restore power across Cape Cod by midnight tonight, and I hope that many of you have already had your power restored. For those who are still waiting, please know you are very much in our thoughts.
Over the past several days, Dennis-Yarmouth High School served as an emergency shelter, and I hope it provided warmth, safety, and a sense of community for those in need—both within our school community and across the Cape. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the shelter possible:
  • Maintenance, Grounds, and Custodial Teams – Your hard work ensured that the building was prepared, accessible, and well-maintained throughout. Your reliability and commitment are deeply appreciated.
  • Food Services Team – Thank you for your dedication to providing meals for our school and the wider community. A hot meal can make an unfamiliar place feel a little more like home, and you gave that comfort to so many.
  • Nursing Staff – Your care allowed us to keep everyone in the shelter healthy and safe. Leaving your own homes to care for others is no small thing, and we are truly grateful.
  • School Resource Officers, Dennis and Yarmouth Police Departments, and Dennis and Yarmouth Fire Departments – Your coordination, supervision, and timely responses to every need were essential to the shelter’s success. Thank you for your steady presence and support.
  • AmeriCorps and The American Red Cross, and all volunteers and community members who helped in ways big and small – Even if you are not mentioned by name, please know how much we value and appreciate your contribution.
Moments like these remind us of the strength, compassion, and resilience of our D-Y community.

Looking ahead, we are excited to share that the Dennis-Yarmouth Multi-Lingual Parent Advisory Council (MLPAC) will be hosting an MLPAC Community Resource Fair on March 23rd at 6:00 p.m. at Dennis-Yarmouth High School. Please see the attached flyers for more information—we hope to see many of you there.

In addition, please keep an eye out for updates on events rescheduled from last week. ArbiterLive will have updates to sports schedules and other updates to events will be communicated via ParentSquare.

Wishing you a safe and gentle week ahead. We are excited to see everyone on Monday, March 2nd when school resumes. We’ve missed you.

Monday March 2nd is a Day 5 beginning with A period.

D-Y HIGH SCHOOL SNOW CONTINGENCY PICK-UP PLAN

Please keep in mind the message from Officer Pasquarosa regarding drop off and pick up with the cold weather and snow accumulations:

The combination of the snow and cold temperatures are causing an increase in pick-up traffic. This combined with a reduction of physical space because of the piled snow means that there is simply not enough room to accommodate all of the pick-up cars on the property. When this happens, we close the driveway. We cannot have traffic backed up onto Station Avenue and we have to allow space for busses and other cars to leave the high school via the south driveway.

If you find yourself getting waved off at the south driveway, don’t fret, you will get your child. Drive to Studley Road and then turn onto Oliver Street, which is directly across from the high school’s south driveway. You CANNOT turn onto Oliver Street directly from Station Avenue because it is posted Do Not Enter on the north side. You would also be facing the wrong way. Line up on Oliver Street facing the high school and once there is enough space, we will welcome you in. It takes a few more minutes but only a few.

If you get your space early, make room for others by pulling all the way forward and leaving only a small gap between you and the car in front of you. You only need about three feet to turn out of your spot, too many are using much more. The more space you use the more cars are blocked out. This will persist as long as there is a large accumulation of snow. Remember, if you are in the traffic, you are the traffic so everyone doing their part will help to make things safer and smoother.

For more information on traffic on the D-Y campus please take a look at https://sites.google.com/dy-regional.k12.ma.us/dypd/drop-offpick-up

Thanks for your help.
