Hello Dolphins,
Wow! We were really able to fit two weeks into one week and say goodbye to February while welcoming March! Each March, we celebrate Women’s History Month as a time to recognize and honor the countless contributions women have made—and continue to make—in our communities, our country, and our world. From groundbreaking scientists, writers, and activists to the women who support us every day here at school and at home, this month invites us to reflect on stories that have too often gone untold. As a learning community, we are committed to elevating diverse voices, challenging stereotypes, and ensuring that all students see themselves represented in the history we study and the future we are building together. On Wednesday, I was fortunate enough to attend a field trip to a Women and Girls Mentoring Breakfast hosted by the Cape and Islands Workforce Board. There we heard Rebekah Gregory speak about her experiences and provide advice and inspiration to young women. This event left a lasting impact on myself and the staff and students who joined. Please keep an eye out for more information as we bring Rebekah's message back to D-Y.
Other highlights this week included an incredible International Food Fest, where our world language department created a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate what they learn in class and to share their cultures with our community through food and performance. That event was followed by a very successful New Student Showcase. It was a privilege to watch our student ambassadors conduct themselves with such poise and professionalism while highlighting the many great opportunities available here at the high school. On Thursday, we hosted a well-attended Junior Parent Breakfast. I know that the final year of high school can feel stressful, but please know that, regardless of your student’s future plans, you have support and guidance here at D-Y. Many thanks to our incredible school counseling department for their unwavering commitment to supporting both students and families. Thursday evening, we were also able to hold our One Act Play. I am proud of our students who are willing to take on sensitive material and invite the audience to appreciate this powerful form of art.
As a reminder, today marks the halfway point of Term 3. Families can view students’ progress report grades in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This is an excellent time for students to check in on their goals for Term 3, reflect on their current standing, identify any obstacles, and begin to formulate plans to overcome them. There is still plenty of time to make meaningful progress and achieve the goals set for this term. Looking ahead, next week we have a couple of half days and will be welcoming 7th graders to the high school for our annual Step-Up Day. Spring is such a wonderful time for regrowth, new beginnings, and also grand finales. Our garden will be blooming soon, and in the meantime, we get to watch our hydroponics grow.
