Hello Dolphins,
We had a great week and have an exciting few weeks ahead at D-Y High School, filled with opportunities that showcase our students’ voices, talents, and growth.
Next week, we will celebrate Civics Day, a highlight of our year and a culminating event for our students’ Civic Action Projects. Each year, students in 8th and 11th grades work in groups to explore civic issues, develop their civic identities, and take informed, authentic action toward meaningful, sustained change in their communities. This year, some of the topics students have taken on include Student Voice in School Discipline, Establishing a Recreation Center, and Mental Health.
To improve access to Dolphin Time, we have adjusted our schedule so that Dolphin Home will now meet on Fridays, and Dolphin Time will run Monday through Thursday. This change will begin with Dolphin Home on Friday, March 20th. Please remind your student(s) that Dolphin Time is an instructional block in their schedule—a dedicated time to meet with a scheduled teacher for extra help or enrichment.
Our Hope Squad students recently attended the Hope Squad Summit at Cape Cod Community College, where they heard guest speaker Emma Bennoit share her story. D-Y High School was also fortunate to host a screening of her documentary, “My Ascension,” on Thursday evening. Both experiences were powerful and impactful for our students.
I'd like to shout out the World Language Department as they hosted their World Language National Honor Society Induction Ceremony on Thursday evening as well. It was a great event celebrating academic achievement.
We were also pleased to welcome 7th graders to campus for our annual Step Up Day. This exciting event allowed us to meet the incoming 8th grade class and highlight some of the many opportunities available to them at the high school.
Finally, we are proud to celebrate Youth Art Month in March. Art education instills a growth mindset—the belief that skills are developed through effort—by encouraging students to embrace “trial and error” as a vital part of learning. This process builds resilience and adaptability, essential skills for navigating a rapidly changing world, and helps develop well-rounded individuals with a distinct competitive edge. Studies consistently show that high school students who participate in arts programs achieve higher graduation rates and experience more successful post-graduation outcomes in the workforce.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our students and school community.
