Change-Makers in Action: Civics Day 2026

Yesterday, our 8th and 11th-grade students showcased their talents as change leaders at our annual Civics Day- an event that truly highlights our district’s core values in action. Through their presentations, students demonstrated excellence, equity, community, and integrity while engaging in meaningful work that connects classroom learning to real-world impact. They presented deep-dive projects on current community issues, including beach conservation, school traffic safety, bullying prevention, technology usage, and the need for community recreation centers.

Core Value: Excellence
Our students demonstrated a strong grasp of their topics through meaningful and thoughtful engagement. By exploring issues aligned with their personal interests, they displayed the critical thinking and independent learning that define academic achievement in D-Y.

Core Value: Equity
By investigating root causes and removing barriers to success, students are working to ensure every member of our community has the support they need to thrive. This project-based learning provides fair access for all students to reach their full potential as advocates.

Core Value: Community
We were honored to host an incredible panel of guests who provided professional feedback using the official Civics Day Judging Rubric. A huge thank you to our State and School Committee Representatives, Superintendent, district leaders, and building administrators for providing an authentic audience for our students. This highlights the power of collaboration in driving positive change.

Core Value: Integrity and Dignity
Students presented with professionalism and open-mindedness, showing accountability for their work while respecting diverse perspectives and engaging thoughtfully in the democratic process.

As these projects continue into the spring, the Dennis-Yarmouth community looks forward to seeing their impact grow, with the potential to advance to the statewide exhibition. Thank you to all who participated in this important event!
