At a glance

Hello Dolphins,
Our school community is still feeling proud and grateful after our successful New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Decennial visit, which highlighted the strength of our students, staff, and programs. A New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) decennial visit is a comprehensive review that happens every ten years to evaluate how well a school is meeting established standards of quality and continuous improvement. During the visit, a team of educators from other NEASC-accredited schools examined areas such as teaching and learning, school culture, leadership, and resources, and then will provide commendations and recommendations. Successful accreditation or re-accreditation through this process signals to families and the community that Dennis-Yarmouth High School meets rigorous regional standards and is committed to ongoing growth.  On April 8 at 6 p.m., we are pleased to welcome Sharing Kindness to present “Grief 101,” an overview of what grief is, how it affects our brains and bodies, and ways we can support those who are grieving; all are welcome to attend and learn more about their programming. In addition to this presentation, Sharing Kindness is the only in-school, clinician-led peer grief group provider on Cape Cod, offering a six-week, evidence-informed series that covers topics such as What is Grief; My Person & Me; Secondary Losses; Emotions – How They Show Up; Coping Skills; and Memories & Continuing Bonds, co-facilitated by our school social worker, Deborah Riggs. We hope to offer one more group beginning after April vacation—families with questions are encouraged to contact Ms. Riggs at riggsd@dy-regional.k12.ma.us or (508) 398-7650 x7421. We are also proud that students in grades 8 and 9 shared in the powerful, schoolwide message shared by Brandon McCall from JC Pohl’s Teen Truth. This message focused on school belonging and brough new energy into the last few months of the school year.On Wednesday April 1st, we were able to acknowledge our paraeducators and wish them a happy Paraeducator Day! I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the educational support professionals at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. Their unwavering dedication and countless contributions form the backbone of our school community. They all welcome and provide vital assistance in the classroom, the hallways and transporting our students safely, their efforts do not go unnoticed. They play an essential role in creating a nurturing and productive environment for both students and staff alike. We are immensely grateful for their commitment and wish them a joyful and well-deserved celebration on this special day! For next week, we are ready to support students as they gear up for the 8th grade ELA MCAS. Finally, April 6th marks the end of Term 3, and report cards will be available in PowerSchool on April 14th. Please encourage students to check PowerSchool for assignments and check in with their teachers.
