Hello Dolphins,
As we wind down the school year, our students and staff continue to shine in leadership, academics, and community building.
Over the weekend of June 5–7, sophomore Aubry Baptiste attended the HOBY Leadership Conference at Bentley University. HOBY’s flagship State Leadership Seminar empowers high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply them as effective, ethical leaders in their homes, schools, and communities. During the three-day seminar, students participate in leadership activities, meet state leaders, and explore their personal leadership skills while learning how to lead on individual, group, and societal levels. They engage in team-building, community service, and goal-setting, and return to their schools with skills that will serve them well into the future. Each spring, nearly 9,000 students across the country are selected to represent their high schools at HOBY seminars.
Similarly, the MassSTAR Citizenship Conference provides three days of intensive programming that challenges student delegates, broadens their perspectives, and cultivates their inner leaders. Through workshops, group activities, and small-group discussions, students learn that they can be proactive leaders in their own communities and bring these skills back to their home schools. Reflecting on the experience, Molly Young shared, “While at MassSTAR, I learned what it means to be a leader, follower, and citizen. While meeting people from all over the state, I found a group of kids I really fit in with and shared the same passion for change and ethics as me. I learned so much about myself and my eyes were opened to so much in the world. It was one of the best experiences of my life!”
Here at D-Y, we were proud to host the Dolphin Olympics once again. The D-Y District special programs came together on the football field for an incredible day of games, music, and community building—thank you to everyone for your hard work in making this event so successful.
Our 8th grade science students brought their learning to life in several ways. Classes launched rockets on our fields, putting their calculations into action and measuring their results. In Ms. Ethier’s classes, students dissected dogfish, demonstrating professionalism, curiosity, and a strong application of scientific skills. In addition, 8th grade field day was another great success. Thank you to Ms. Crary for organizing the event and to the volunteer staff who helped bring the day together.
As we approach the close of the school year, please review next week’s exam schedule carefully. Thank you all for a wonderful year. We look forward to building on our productive initiatives next year and continuing to live out our district core values, our Dolphin Way, and our Vision of a Graduate.
Have a great summer!
