Vision of A Graduate

Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School is proud to introduce our Vision of a Graduate, a shared description of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions we believe every Dolphin should possess upon graduation. This vision is more than a document—it is a promise to our students and our community about the kind of preparation and support we will provide to ensure all graduates are ready to thrive in college, career, and life.
This Vision of a Graduate is the result of thoughtful collaboration and reflection across our school community. Students played a critical role by sharing their experiences, aspirations, and ideas about what learning should look and feel like. Their voices helped us define what truly matters in a rapidly changing world. Teachers contributed their expertise about instruction, curriculum, and student growth, helping to translate big ideas into meaningful, day-to-day classroom practice. Families offered invaluable perspectives about their hopes for their children’s futures and what success should mean beyond grades and test scores. Community members and stakeholders—local organizations, employers, and partners—helped us align our vision with the real-world skills and habits of mind our graduates will need after high school.
Together, this input shaped the five pillars of a Dennis-Yarmouth graduate: Innovator, Community Member, Life-Long Learner, Communicator, and Problem Solver/Critical Thinker. As Innovators, our graduates will be able to approach challenges with creativity, curiosity, and resilience, using new ideas and tools to improve their world. As Community Members, they will be engaged, empathetic, and responsible individuals who contribute positively to their school, local community, and beyond. As Life-Long Learners, they will demonstrate intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to continued growth. As Communicators, they will be able to express their ideas clearly, listen actively, and collaborate effectively with others. As Problem Solvers and Critical Thinkers, they will analyze information, evaluate evidence, and develop thoughtful solutions to complex problems.
A special thank you is owed to the leadership team at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. This team carefully gathered and reviewed feedback from all groups, studied current research and best practices, and thoughtfully refined the language and structure of our Vision of a Graduate. Their commitment to honoring every voice while grounding the work in evidence-based practices ensured that our five pillars are both aspirational and attainable.
To our students, teachers, families, and all stakeholders: thank you for your time, your honesty, and your partnership in this important work. Our Vision of a Graduate belongs to all of us, and it will guide our decisions, our programs, and our daily interactions. Together, we will continue to build a school where every student can grow into an Innovator, Community Member, Life-Long Learner, Communicator, and Problem Solver/Critical Thinker.
